What with all of the empty places on the different maps (Tyria, Cantha and Elona), I reckon there's plenty of room for new explorable areas for between now and GW2. Anet said they weren't ruling out free content updates to tide us over, after all.

We can't expect the Anet team to come up with a huge number of different areas to fill in the gaps, but I reckon the community might have some pretty good ideas of their own.

I suggest a contest. A contest to design an explorable area. The top X entries will be built by the dev team and integrated into the game (modified a little if necessary) for everyone to enjoy.

Entries into the contest would need the following:

Continent: Tyria, Cantha, Elona.
Region: Ascalon, Kryta, Crystal Desert, Shing Jea, Jade Sea, Echovald Forest, Desolation, Istan, Kourna, Vabbi etc.
Adjacent Areas: Regent Valley, Dreadnaught's Drift, other explorable areas.
Map Design: Detailed top-down view of the proposed area, including zone points, collectors, merchants and other important locations.
Creature List: Proposed list of spawned monsters/bosses/NPCs.

That's my idea. Feel free to pick it apart, add your thoughts etc.
